Barndo Building Process
Tanya’s lovely barndo sits on 15 acres of private land owned by her husband’s family. With their parents’ help, they were able to construct this stunning black house that they had envisioned and dreamt of having. It is equipped with 3 apartment-style bedrooms and was completed after 10 months. Their builder pick was the reputable Premier Custom Builders.
Since it is a barn home, they preferred a full black metal supporting frame, quite a different approach from post-frame barndo and traditional structures. Though they did not disclose the total construction cost, it might be much cheaper and more practical than building a house on concrete support.
Moving on, its whole planning was based on Tanya and her family’s desired living quarter requirements. It helped her lay out spaces that would meet the needs of her growing household.
Financing – How Did She Do It?
As mentioned earlier, the funding and budget of Tanya’s home construction were kept confidential. However, the fact that Tanya chose a barndominium could be at a lower cost than a traditional house.
Tanya’s Barndominium Exterior – Sleek Black
Metal Barndominiums, in general, can portray a utilitarian impression at a glance. Yet, this one has a simple barn home design. Up close, it screams bold ambiance due to the black metal walls. Its wooden porch posts and stone-clad chimney serve as accents, subtle additions to mute the flat black facade. It is indeed a unique metal house with a sleek dark color scheme. Imagine it at night, blending well with nature.
Interior – Homey and Well-thought Quarters
What’s interesting about this unit is its pleasant and bright interiors despite its opaque exterior. Its homey high-raised hall will grab your attention as soon as you walk in. It showcases a spacious living area with a loft, an impressive home for a family.
Let us have a rundown of each of the spaces Tanya has shared with us.
The first receiving area upon entry is the vertically capacious living area with a stunning fireplace with stone works. The high ceiling and clerestory windows make the house well-lit and ventilated, along with the help of neat and bright wall finishes. As mentioned, Tanya and her family opted for an open plan since they wanted to host gatherings. The outcome is this ideal and functional great room, located across the accessible kitchen and dining area.
Kitchen & Dining
This house’s kitchen is minimalist, featuring a brick-finish backsplash. It also has an island with a sink and space for a mini bar counter. The dining area is on the kitchen’s right, near the stairs. The total floor area for these zones is enough and modest.
The master suite is at the main level, as preferred by the owners. It is designed to cater to their needs, especially as they grow older and want a comfortable room. Their children’s rooms are upstairs, spaced like in an apartment. The rooms have private en-suite bathrooms for their convenience and privacy as well.
The bathrooms available in this barndo offer maximum privacy for occupants. The rooms on the upper level are provided with their own walk-in closet and en-suite toilet and bath. The master suite has a uniquely designed zero-entry bathroom, as suggested by the owners for their ease and convenience.
The loft space was utilized as a balcony overlooking the living area. It can be closed off with the installed barn doors. Besides the impressive balcony, the second-level occupants can enjoy the wet bar, pantry, and entertainment corners.
The service area at the main level includes the laundry area. It has ample space for fabric and clothes care supplies. There’s also a pantry with abundant storage for the family’s whatnot.
Covered Back Porch
Tanya’s family is proud of their covered back porch that offers a cozy area to admire the 10 acres of woods and lush surroundings– an attractive addition to this lovely barndo that complements its bold character.
